24 July 2014: Investment Seminar
GYC organised an investment seminar on 24 July 2014 at Sheraton Towers Hotel.
The Straits Times recently reported that the emerging affluent in Singapore are not hitting their retirement goals. Although 76% of Singaporeans say that retirement planning is a priority for them, less than half have a financial plan. Many banks and financial advisers exhort us to save aggressively in fixed template retirement plans. So we slave away at our jobs, hoping that we'd have saved up enough by the time we stop work at age 62.
The question is: are you receiving the right financial advice, advice specifically suited to what you want your life to be right now, rather than at age 62?
The seminar opened with a talk on Redefining Retirement by our Deputy CEO, Aw Choon Hui, addressing some retirement myths and the new approach towards retirement. This was followed by interviews with Fang Li Ping from Tokio Marine Life Insurance, who talked about using insurance as a retirement solution, and Tim Gibson from Henderson Global Investors, who talked about investing in property as a retirement solution.
